What to buy?

I am completely new at tank rearing. I recently received a used 55 gallon tank. I am interested in obtaining some clownfish. However, I first need to get things started. I've been reading lots of books, and all of them basically say the same things. My biggest problem is "What to buy." Tonight I paid a visit to the petstore and purchased a few items: a ProQuatics Hydromatic Aquarium Heater 300 Watt (Is this sufficient???) a Proquatics Power Filter 200, and some Perfecto Aquarium Sealant just in case. I was so bombarded by different labels and brands that I went with a name I'd heard mentioned before. I have the receipts and have not yet opened anything. Did I purchase proper equipment? If not, what should I get instead? What else do I need??? Any specific suggestions would help greatly!
Thanks,
Candi

First I would like to start off by saying WELCOME to the hobby!:D
Next I want to say dont by cheep equipment it doesnt pay you will only replace it later (been there done that). Next you need to decide what kind of tank do you want a reef or fish only this will help you decide what type of lights to have. If you want a reef with corals you will have to spend some money on lights but if you want just fish any strip light will do. For a heater I woud suggest Ebo-Jagger or a Won they are two of the best had one of my Ebo's for over two years and still going strong. You will need some power heads to move the water around in your tank. Maxi-jets are very good power heads start right up every time.
As for your filter I dont know I dont use a filter. You will also need live sand and live rock. These are for your biological filter.
I hope this helps I am sure I missed something but I am sure some else can chime in as well there are lots of great people on this board.

Welcome, I agree with Kevin. Make sure you do a complete cycle, and by all means buy quality equipment, and if you need more info, search on this board (there are some great people on this board), and buy a good reference book as well.
