So this is my setup:
1st Chamber water comes in from the tank through grate.
In the first chamber I have:
SPONGE
Chemi Pure
SPONGE
2nd Chamber I have
Chaeto w/ Light
3rd Chamber I have
Heater and Pump
That first chamber of Sponge , Chemi Pure, Sponge (2 sponges) is that ok or should I replace that with another setup? Suggestion?

Seems to ab allot of these questions here lately , is everyone getting new thanks? Anyway I am a HUGE fan of running plug n play set ups stock
they know what they are doing when they build them. If you want to build one then starting with a empty tank is the way to go. I did the MOD thing to my bio-cube and lets just say I ended up going back to the stock set-up and it did better that way
JMO good luck

While I have done several mods on my 29 Bio-Cube I am a firm believer in not adding all the chemicals that people add to run these little tanks on the ragged edge. I did mods that were imo needed to better the design. I have spoken to several of the tech people at Oceanic who have pointed out several flaws. I think its all opinion and thats it. I have learned alot on this site and havent done to much damage yet!

I don't run mechanical sponges, they trap food and therefore trap nitrates and phosphates...
I do run carbon though.

The floss type 2 stage filter media is fine for filteration so long as you change it "BEFORE" it gets real dirty. Helps keep the water cear and clean. Carbon will help alot with clarity also. I suggest you read some of the beginner threads and learn what you can. It will help alot.

Is Chemi-Pure pretty much carbon or not at all ?
chemi-pure is a very good brand of carbon. I would also recommend running a bag of granular ferric oxide (GFO for short) which absorbs phosphates and helps keep nuisance algae growth very minimal.. nitrates are much easier to export than phosphates and seem to overshadow discussion of the other component that makes microalgae grow so I thought I'd bring it up right away. I like Rowaphos, but there's always Phosban... and no name brands.. it's essentially all the same.
