So I know people have a QT for new fish so they dont get a disease in their main tank, but what should I be doing with the QT while there are no fish in it or when my tank is full?

I would suggest to keep it running and put a damsel in it. You can do water changes with the DT water.

Just run it fallow... (No fish) keep it cycled by ghost feeding it once a week. No need to keep a fish in it.

can you put a sanil in it to keep the algee down?
As long as you have not used medications in the QT before, especially copper, that could kill or injure inverts.

i wouldn't want a damsel beating my new fish into submission.

I break mine down but keep a few sponges in my sump to use when I need my QT. Just easier that way for me.
