what to expect with coral growth

I see ads for people fragging zoos and pallys and just about everything. What type of growth can and should be expected? I have a couple tanks 50 gal. and a 125 with auqalight pros (MH, PC, and moons). But there is no major growth. I use purple up and calcium additives. Am I expecting too much?? Or are the people who sell frags just growing the corals over long periods of time? It's kinda confusing / frustrting. Any insight / info would be helpful.

well, depends on the flow and chemical levels. if you have any nitrates whatsoever coral growth is stunted like mad.

Really depends on the coral, for me my palys grow really fast but only a few kinds of zoos do, the rest are slow growers. LPS like candy canes and frogspawn split pretty often, probably every month there's another head or two. So there's no set growth rate, your best bet is find out what grows well in your tank and stick to those if you are looking to sell, I get rid of lots of mushrooms, palys and candy canes for really cheap because of their growth but other slow growing stuff would cost more.

what are the parameters in yout tank?
also for Zoas and Palys...it also depends on what type you have...i have some zoas in my tank that are growing like crazy and then i have some others that are growing REALLY slow...
but your water parameters need to be in check before you can start to see some good growth...
