what to put in a HOB filter?

I just got a HOB filter, what should i put/take out of it???
Carbon?
Phosphate?
what else?
do i leave the carbon in w/out taking it out?
and do i slowly add phospates in and out?

Generaly Carbon is used mainly when your water begins to let off some nasty odors or tank on yellowish appearances...Most agrea that Carbon only lasts a few days and If left in the filter too long may begin to leach all the toxins it absorbed back into the water...You may Want to Run your Carbon just 3-5 days at a time perhaps once a month or more so if needed.
