Can someone here list all the things you should be testing for in the water and how to fix them. Such as nitrate levels and PH etc. Please also say how to fix them iff they are off balance.
Thanks

You should test for pH, alk, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate for sure. To fix them the best way is just water changes. How old is your tank? IS it cycled, if it is not cycled let it go until it is. Your tank is cycled when ammonia and nitrites hit 0. Then do 25% water change and check parameters. HTH

flash..lol...there is now way you know if your tank is fully cycled if you haven't tested for these things. The completion of a cycle means theses tests have been done several times and have consistent results
ammonia and nitrites should be at 0, nitrates should be as close to 0 as possible, but an acceptable range could be up to 20.
Ph around 8.2, with 8.0 to 8.4 being for the most part acceptable. Key for ph is to keep that consistent.
If you start getting into toher things like inverts and eventually coral, you should test for alkalinity, calcium, iodine and a couple of other things.
It isnt so bad to have a copper test done if you are using water from your home.
