I have had this Crab for a almost a year and a half. I thought he was a Blue Leg hermit crab but he is much bigger then all of my other blue leg crabs. Also he is more hairy then the others in my 40 gallon tank. The shell he is in is not the one he came in. Thanks for the help.

"Blue leg" hermits is generally the common name for Clibanarius tricolor, which has bright orange eye stalks/antennae, blue and orange banding on its legs, and black pincers with white spots...pretty crabs, actually.

As for your crab, I looked around a bit, but had little luck finding "your" critter, altho I believe I found a photo of the same species on a Korean reefer site, but its legs were quite a bit more blue, which could be specimen variation.

Bottom line, is I'd keep an eye on it, and maybe relegate it to "sump monkey" status until you get a better handle on the ID or see how it behaves.

Thanks for the help I had no clue it would be so hard to find the type of crab this is. I only got it from my lfs so I might have to research before I agree to what the they tell me something is. This could also explain why most of my snails only last two weeks at most in my tank.
