what type of light to use

Welcome to the Boards!,
For FO tanks you can use any light you would like. Only with reef tanks you need metal halides, power compacts or anything like that. Live Rock (which I'm assuming your putting in your tank) doesn't need any special lights. Although higher intensity lights will make it more colorful. For my FO tank I have a NO Lights "normal output". It's one white bulb and one blue bulb. Also metal halides and power compacts also will produce more heat which may require a chiller.
