My Hammer coral and Sinularia have both gotten rather large and seem to want to occupy the same space lately. So any guesses on which will win the battle? My money is on the Hammer.
Thoughts
in contact the hammer will win but the stinging will cause the leather to release terpenoid compounds that will damatge the euphyllia. in the long run my guess is the leather would triumph IF you werent doing water changes etc. but in a clean system with ample water changes the hammer will deal the most damage though its stinging nematocyst.
That's a good question. I had a Galaxea frag (2inch x1 inch) fall on a mushroom one night. I discovered it the next morning and put the Galaxea back where it belonged but the damage had already been done. The mushroom almost killed the whole Galaxea. It only had one or two live polyps on it after their night time battle.
My guess is the soft coral will win.

I am thinking a third outcome may be most likely, that the sinularia will move and they will both survive. Since they have been so close for a couple years now, and it looks like the sinualria has decided recently to bend over away from the hammer and to some new rocks.
