Hello to all,im new here and know nothing yet ,but i always wanted an saltwater aquarium with an aggresive setup type(according to the forums),
Bascially im reading along as im writng this,my question is ,
to have atleast a nice tiger shark and another 2 fish in the future,
im focusing basically on the shark as its my illusion, how big should be my tanksize would a meter be enough or do they really need a 3 meters width aquarium.
Because i ordered one ,which looked big to me ,but after seeing some fotos here, hehe it s worth ----.
But i didnt pick it up yet so i can order a bigger one,but i really qould like your expertise.
Also any good information about all things to taken in carew with apart from this great forum, which will have me steady as from now,
would greatly appreciate it.
Im a freelance programmer and im always behind the computer, and i feel alone.
I m really thrilled with the idea of getting this great creature next to my computer.
I know its not easy and i will have to read a lot to prepare an good environment ,but im aware of it.
Just another question is it possible next to a tiger shark have an queen angel fish, they re really beautifull.

this may be a silly question, but what do you mean by "tiger shark"? are you talking about the sharks that grow 15-16 ft long and are often mentioned in the same sentence as "great white" and "bull shark"? if so, I guess you would need an aquarium at least the size of an Olympic size swimming pool. I have never seen a tiger shark in a public aquarium, I've heard they were hard to keep in captivity. they've been known to eat people, sea turtles, horses, car parts, etc, so they'll probably eat queen angels too.

If I were you I would do a ton of research for the tiger shark you want to get. From what I've seen, just like Pontius said, they are large sharks. Olympic pool would be needed, and I hope your salary is 6 figures. Along with picking what you want to get, you should really read up on them, or anything you want to get. It would be sad to buy things that don't get along and will eat one another, especially if you $$$ for it.
Just so you know, I haven't started an SWA yet, I am still in my research phase. So far a month and counting. I want to be able to care and provide the right enviorment for what ever I get. Nothing is a pet to me, they are considered family.

One site said 180 Gal minimum..... will eat lots of live stuff, and is not reef safe. And will get 4 feet. If you do get one..... post pictures. I've always liked sharks, but I would hate to have to care for one.

thats just crule to put a shark in a 180 he'd have just enough room to sit there, can't really swim in that small of a tank.

they say you only need a 100 for this shark, but a 180 would be a minimum. they get 2 ft in length and are bottom dwellers. making them almost ideal for the home aquarium. swimmers would require a much larger set up. I personally would only get a tank that is 3ft front to back and at lesat 6 foot long. I would try and go larger though. Just because i would want to give the shark room to turn(without having to bend) and a couple of lengths for it to travel.
also being bottom dwellers, you should try and go light on the LR, leaving them room to lounge on hte bottom as well. Yet another reson why to get a larger tank(easier to create soem square footage for them to lunge on the bottom).

Also, dont go with putting in an angel of any kind. They are notorious for nipping at them and can lead to bacterial infection, but it always leads to the death of the shark. Especially in bottom dwellers. Try a large tang or even a lion. I had a 15" blonde naso tang with my 2 sharks and they got along greaty until the 2 cali rays went in. Then, the tang was pestering the rays so much he was donated to the LFS. I loved that fish. So basically, go with at least a 180, get a flow rate of at least 1000 gal/hr, basic lighting, live substrate, go easy on the live rock (maybe 60 lbs.) and run your fish selection over the board. We'll take care of you!!! Good luck and welcome to the dark side.
