hey there ya'll
my wife and i have decided to break our own rules and get a
anemone. we always said we would leave them in the ocean but well the temptaion is just to great.
here is our tank info
65 reef
500watt pc 19 inches from bottom of lights to top of sand bed
soon to be 260 watt pc and 250 hm late next week
100+ live rock
3inch live sand base
20 gallon sump with with 2 inch live sand base and
water has been constat stable as long as we can remember
dual bio wheels and aqua C pro skimmer
water change once a month about 15 gallons
we dose basic a-b and iodine, we also feed corals with micro plankton
our only fish is a purple fire fish
we know clowns dont need a anemone however we both love there relationship and watching it.
clowns we like are percs and marrons
any info would be great
thanks

Well I would think you can go for a BTA,RBTA or LTA with that lighting.
As to the clowns consider the Ocellaris as well as the Percula. But only get 2 of one kind.
Maroons, only if you add two juviniles at the same time, they can get quite aggressive when adults. As long as they are alive never add another clown to that tank.

If this is your first anemone then a BTA or RBTA would be my recommendation. Once an LTA is acclimatized and settles in the tank, its a pretty easy keep too. But I think the first few days with an LTA could be a little more trying than with a BTA/RBTA. So preference wise I would say BTA>RBTA>LTA>Rest. I would say that the choice between an BTA or RBTA is very close.

I agree with jacob in the anemone selection.
I would personally go with the Perculas. The problem is that they are tank raised and many do not take to an anemone. Mine have been in the tank over a year and could care less about my anemone.
If you want a host relationship, go with the maroons. Get them small so you don't have aression issues as they will sort out who is dominant gradually. The drawback to that is that with a female maroon, you really can't have much else in the tank as she is agressive.
Have you considered cinnamon clowns? They readily host and are not as agressive as maroons.

not sure if i have seen one. its more the bright contrast of color that maroons have that attracts my wife and I.
we had a gold banded one for about a year and ended up trading it in,
we dont want to many fish.
maybe three??
so if i went with a single marron what anemone would be the best bet??

this will sound funny but i just read that you can stick a picture of a perc hosting a anemone up against the glass near your anemone and it can teach your clown ?? sounds far fetch to me but it was from bang, guy so i would think if anyone knows about clowns it would be him.

the gold stripe maroons are beautiful clowns. if you go with one it should be ok.. i would try to get juvenile one and add the other fish you want while it is still young. if you get an adult one i am sure your fire fish wont last long..personally i would go with a bta.. i also read about putting up a picture to get your clown to host the anemone and i have heard that it works !
