100 gal tank if I were to purchase a overflow and pump that could turn the water over at a rate of 8x an hour and add one of those sea swirl oscillators. Would I still need powerheads??? Could I eliminate the powerheads all together or should I still have them in the tank.
Have any of you had experiences with those sea swirls??? What do you think??

I have 3 Sea Swirls. One in my reef and two in my FOWLR. They do an excellent job moving the water, but I still have 3 powerheads in my reef (hooked to a Tsunami wavemaker) and 4 in my FOWLR. Not sure the Sea Swirl would keep the water moving well enough without the powerheads.

Ray-
You could try a closed loop system. This way the powerheads aren't actually in the tank. Just a thought.

IMHO, you should stull use your PH's to circulate water in any "deadspots/corners/etc" Sorry dont know too much about closed loops...

A closed loop circulation system is a centralized pump circulating the water through PVC or whatever releasing it in strategic points to ensure adequate water movement throughout the tank...I think that is what it is...I could be incorrect...
I would think the idea is to limit the usage of powerheads in view and to provide a more efficient flow of water...
Something like that...
