hmm. I have had the same rio return pump on my reef for over 5+ years. I have burned out some of the smaller ones using them on a wave-maker but 2 years of on/off action every thirty seconds burns out maxijets too (and every other pump i stick on that wavemaker strip eventually). way back the old oil filled rio's were a hazard and that kind of left a bad taste in a lot of bobbyests mouths (coming home to a tank with an oils slick and dead animals will do that). but over all I have had good luck with them.
that said I can't compare to the Sicce at all since I have never used one. looking up the product information and warrantee (3 years) I wouldn't hesitate to try one. especially if its as quiet and energy efficient as they advertise.

I'm looking to replace my main return pump. I've narrowed it down to the Rio 26HF and the Sicce. The Rio pushes more water but I don't think I really need it. Its a drilled 75 with Durso standpipe going through a 2" bulkhead, my return line is only 3/4" so I know that coupling that with my head pressure (5') I wont be getting anywhere near the advertised flow rate. My sump/'fuge is a converted 55gal. The sump is about 10gal, the fuge is about 30gal, and the the return area is about 15gal. I have limited experiance with Rio's and have never heard of the Sicce either. Thats why I'd figured I come and pick the brains of those who know alot more than I do before making a purchase :)

On a return pump, I use the Ehiem brand. I have a 3000 on my 90g and a 2000 on my 30g..they have a dial so you can control the output I really like them.
