Plus a 12 to 14 inch canopy. I am thinking of switching the middle light on my 150 gal to a 400 wtt. I have 3 250s now. will 400 be to much in the middle

If your asking if the 400 is too much then I would say no. If your asking if its overkill I would say yes IMO. You should not have a problem keeping anything under 250's on that depth of tank. If the 250's are not cutting it then you should be looking at your reflectors or another part of your existing setup.

Thanks I am getting ready to replace the ballasts and was thinking that I should replace the reflectors too. I was just thinking that if I wanted to up the watts in the middle I should do it now. My anemone is in the middle, and is bleaching out. I know water quality has some part of it, but I was thinking that lighting might be part of the problem also.

So what ballast, bulbs and reflactors are you currently running? I have found the bulbs and the reflectors are the biggest key on getting PAR up. The ballast plays a role in this but not as much as the other two IMO.

The ballasts are old - made by a company in CA that isnt even in business any more. The reflectors are out of a pendent. The arent very reflective.
