im currently using oceanic, but someone told me they aint that good (i have a pH problem, my pH always drop to 7.9-8.0 no matter how much buffer/water changes i tried, i have almost 500 calc, 4mEq/L alkalinity, fresh salt water have 8.3 pH but drop after i add them to my tank) is kent or instant ocean good?

I use Kent with good results, calcium is 450, and alk is "normal" (lol alk test I have is a cheap freebie that came with the ph kit, I need to replace it
)

Oceanic is actually pretty good salt except for the high calcium content. Tropic Marin is about the best though. I am switching to that as soon as I finish off the Oceanic I have left.

That's what I am doing after I use up the rest of my Oceanic bucket.

I dont know that there is a good and bad salt. well I'm sure there are but besides calcium, alk, iodine and things that are EASY to take care of we have no clue about the other trace elements that probably make more of a significant difference. generally they all get the job done though some need a little dosing.

I have used instant ocean from day one. mostly beacause I can get it for $13.00 for a 50g bag. I have never had any problems w/ it.
Instant O is basicly the same as Reef christles but w/o the additives. I just add my cal. and Iodine when I make the water. and have the same thing as Reef C's with out paying 30 bucks a bag.
BTW 125g reef w/ 70g sump/fuge. 3 years

Except that many pet stores will use the cheapest salt mix they have available.
Whether you buy saltwater or mix your own you should always test it before it goes in your tank.

It may be alot cheaper in Cal., But here in Wisconsin your lucky if you find salt under 19.99 for a 50g mix. When you do thats what you use!

I've tried quite a few different salts over the years......Coralife salt wouldn't touch with a stick, IO not bad IMO......Kent was ok wasn't overwhelmed.....Oceanic was average IMO...did dissolve nice, but didn't see things explode as everyone raved and said it would, and then came all the pounding about their quality control issues.....so not very high on salt recommendations for me and Seachem was a good salt, but doesn't dissolve well IMO, and at times you could get nice fresh batches it seems at my supplier and other times it seems they were old and hard......TropicMarin Pro is very nice salt mix IMO......Seems very consistent, and been very pleased and I've always been a Reef Crystals fan, but TM is giving them a run for their money IMO.
