What's a good filter for a 50 gallon?

It really depends on your set-up. Is it reef or fish only?
Myself, I use only live rock and live sand as my filtration, on my reef tank. Occasionally I use a power filter with a bit of carbon.

try looking into a sump. easier to maintain you can put the skimmer, heater, refugium, carbon. you can use rubbermmaid containers or an old tank.

I could make a sump, but I don't know if my Prizm Skimmer is just used as a hang on, or can be used in a sump. Anybody know?
To awnser your question of my tank, it's tecnically a semi-reef, although more by accident then anything else. I was trying to have a FOWLR tank, but found recently that I have 2 anenome hitchikers on my LR. No, it's not apthasia.

You probably don't want to use a prizm on 50g. I would get your 20 gallon really nice before i would jump up. by the way i would use LR, LS, and a big ol skimmer!

Too bad I'm practically broke and can't afford a newer, better skimmer. Besides, the company says that it works for up to a 90 gallon tank. Take into consideration that most companies exaggerate a bit, and I think it would just be big enough for a 50.
But that's my opinion.
