What's a refugium?

I ask questions and sometimes I don't understand the answers. Someone said it was good if I had a refugium in my tank. What's that?

The easiest and guaranteed way to get info on this site is to use the search function. People usually respond sooner or later, but if the question is something that could easily be answered by searching this forum... you may not get much feedback.
