Whats on my LR

I have a 300 gallon FOWLR tank. I have never had a dedicated reef tank so I dont know much about many critters other than fish, and was wondering what I have on my live rock. I thought it was just some kind of shell that looks like a clam that is part of the rock. Then the other day, I thought it had moved to a different spot. I noticed I had a couple of these when I was wiping down the sides of the tank. Two of them were open about 1/4 of an inch and I touched it with my cleaning brush and it closed. I dont know what these are but I know they are alive. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

I had some small black things I thought were clams but some one here suggested mussles. Maybe that's what you have. I am fairly new at this though. :)

not a stupid question at all <img src="graemlins//angel.gif" border="0" alt="[angel]" /> although i can't give an opinion about it with your info. what color were they? did you notice anything about the inside of the shells? maybe it is some type of clam, or scallop? i've noticed a couple empty shells in my tank, where maybe one of my hermits ate the insides. would help if you could provide a pic or more description though. might be the same type thing i saw in mine? my roomate has some flame scallops in his that act that way (like yours do), but they are red with red tentacles that stick out.?????????? :)

Something is inside that moves. I have found three or four of them. I dont know how to add a picture. I have never had any hermit crabs so that rules them out. I didnt notice them because they blended in with the rock so well. They are covered in coraline and I dont notice any kind of tenticles either.
