What's so bad anyway???

OK, so i know how to get rid of hair algae and bubble algae, but why do i need to?

I just realized that i've read a million times how to rid your tank of these algaes, but why? Are they bad for the tank? They shouldn't be, as they live off of nitrates and phosphates, so wouldn't that mean they're good for the tank because they eat that stuff? Is it just that people don't like the look of it? I personally like my hair algae, and the way it sways in the flow of my water. I had one piece of bubble algae, but i took it off. I also liked the way it looked... Little confused about this...

ive left all of mine... supposedly it will compete with the corals for space, and may irritate them if in constant contact.

i just keep it groomed around the corals, and tear it out wherever i plan to put a coral.

most people just think its ugly. i, on the other hand, agree with you, and think that it adds a certain natural touch, as long as it is kept under control. caulerpa, tho... i do tear that out, because it is ugly.

That's what i thought. I'll keep it well groomed (lol sound like a barber) when i finally do get corals, but right now, all i have is my LR (i figured it probably smothered the corals or something along those lines). I only have a few patches of hair algae, and it's cute to watch my cleaner shrimp dig through it for food that gets caught.
