What's the difference between a denitrifier and deioniser?

What's the dif between a Denitifier and a Deioniser? This is going to sound stupid, but are both of these machines or additives?
Aren't these both used to help "age" the replacement water making it safe before you dump it into the tank?
I know the Denitrifier takes out phosphates, ammonia, nitrate and nitrite. What does the other do?
Do you need both to make your tap water safe for the tank, or can you just use additives from the LFS?
Thanks!

Diaoniser (sp) is use when makeing water =99% pure but you want to use a ro so it will last longer. Denitorfier = waste of $$

I would say a denitorfier is a waste. it happens in all things LR,LS,wet dry any media ect You can make them cheaper than a premade one with any simple bioball ,bioballs ,sponge ect.

denitro machines or whatever are those boxes full of balls = a waste. Sumps/wetdry proving alot more =more water volumne ect. But the denitrogen process does hapen in anerobic areas. LR and DSB is enough. IME nitrates are simple to rid if you practic good husbantry. Simply don't overstock fish. A sump I would guarrentee will more water volumne would behave more benifit,. Than having less water and a box full of balls.IMO sumps can be made just as cheap as a denitofier. If you have having problems with nitrates I would look into what do you use as a biological filter? Use LR use LS? Overstock fish? Overfeed? ect.. I would rather have less equipment than more =uv,detritofier, ozone, sure ozone and uv maybe good but in a home tank if you pratic good husbantry IME the simpler the better. I can admit I probally bought everything in the book when I started. Most just sit there not being use like junk JME
