Whats the purpose of foam board

Whats the purpose of foam board? I see a lot of big tank being installed in walls and laying it on a foam board. Is it to balance it somehow?

In theory its to help distribute weight evenly.

If you DIY your stand and it is uneven it can put pressure points on the tank which can cause stress then bowing or busting.
The weight of the tank will compress the foam over any imperfections to make a level surface.

Agree, but also depends on what the manufacturer recommends....different tank manufacturers will have different opinions on that subject....best to consult them first, because it could affect your warranty.

Different manufacturers different recommendations..... some manufacturers say not at all.
