Whats the rule of thumb on inches per gal?

it really depends but i guess if you wanted all small low waste producers then 1" for every 2-5 gallons
but if you get a tang a trigger or pretty much any big fish that rule flies out the window.

I belive that the only way to get the correct rule of thumb on inches per gallon is to catch a snipe. They are the only creature that can tell you.
There are way too many vairables to go by a strict rule. If you are worried about overstocking post what you have here and let's see what ya got.

all 2 inches or less except for the angel which is about 3 inches and goby is about 4.
No fuge, thinking of putting 1 in. About 1oo lbs LR, 2 or 3 inchs LS. Aqua C skimmer. No problems with water quality.

There is no per inch formala with marine animals. You have to study your animals needs and then strive to meet that need, keeping compatiable specimens.

Yup, its often dictated more by water quality, fish behavior, territoriality and aggression than by size.
