I'm still researching and one shop owner said that the smallest I should buy was 70 gal. Is he right or do you have another opinion? We have a relatively small space to accomodate a tank and we really want to go saltwater. I'm interested in the opinion of the pros. Thanks.

This is aquatic sale month! I got a 35 gallon hex w/light and nice wooden stand that doubles as a storage area for $149!! All the tanks are on sale. I wouldn't recommend buying livestock at *****. But you can't buy glass tanks online safely. You need to maximize you dollar in this hobby.
Don't start with a 20 gallon, start with a 30 gallon. And if you have the cash, start with a 50 gallon. This site does have great fish.
The 35 gallon hex tank is a super space saver. It is this vertical tank that allowed me access to this hobby, as I also had limited space.
It has a footprint of about 25 inches deep, by 25 inches width, by 56 inches height.
Get your tape measure!

What is the max length of room that you have to work with? What ever it is I'm sure we can come up with several options.

Go with the reef ready (pre-drilled overflow) AGA 54 corner. Good size for water stabilty, great viewing area, less seams and a real space saver. Who doesn't have an available corner in their house just waiting for one of these?
i also think that the best tank to start out with is a 55 gallon. They seem to be not too big and not too small. I started out with one and it has been great. Than after a couple of years go bigger or really small. Im upgrading to a 90 gallon now.
