I bought 2 of these hermits at the LFS today. They are a little less than an inch in length. The hermits were labeled as hermit crabs. I asked the the LFS ppl what type of hermit crabs they were...but of course they didn't know. So I figured I'd turned to the experts.
Can you please help me identify this hermit crab. How big will they get? In my 29 gallon tank I have 1 Damsel fish, 1 turbo snail, and 2 of these hermits. Will these hermit pose a threat to the other inhabitants? Thanks in advance for your help.

Looks like it could be a strawberry hermit. I got one in my tank and he doesn't bother anyone. Also stays about the same size as a red leg hermit not big at all. Very cool! Congrats on the find. :)

I wouldn't say red hermits don't get very big...A LFS here in town has one that is in a shell bigger than a golf ball. This thing has been returned to the store more times than I can remember. It is a BIG,NASTY,KILLER...But your's looks nothing like a red,or a blue leg,or a scarlet reef. And even a strawberry has more "red"color in it than yours...From the look of his relative size against the crushed coral,,This is a very small critter...I would not think he could cause any trouble till he gets MUCH larger...
