Whats with the tubes on the nose of a Snowflake eel??

Just looking at my new book and notices that the snowflake has small tubes on his/her nose what the hell are those for??

I'm not really sure what they are for, thats one I will have to look up in my book. Our kids always ask the same thing, we joke with them and say they can't breath underwater and need them so water won't go up there noeses. I'll loke it up and if I find an answer I'll post, but I think the post above is probaly right. Later Lisa
