What's wrong with xenia???

I guess it depends on your outlook. It can grow very fast under the right conditions and take over your tank. I have had clumps of it die off completely to where there is nothing left and weeks later it grows back again. I suppose if you didnt want it around it could be hard to get rid off.

Nothing wrong with it except that it can grow quickly. I have mine on a rock where it was isolated form the rest of the tank by my BTA. That worked for a while, but now it is actually encroaching on the anemone.

And then you have people like me who couldnt keep it for years and now I have it but it grows very slowly.

Thank you so very much for the responses!
I love my xenia, so this growth thing so far is a good thing for me. And if there is too much of it, then I can always just donate to my lfs, I am sure.

It was one of my first corals that I had gotten. I was new to corals and the LFS knew I had alot of knowledge about setting up the tank and about fish and I guess they just thought I knew how rapid it would grow and a few days later one of the stalks latched on to one of the base rocks and started to spread from there. The fish store I got it from said that whatever it touches it would spread to (after the fact- this info was given)! So I moved the xenia towards the front of the glass and it latched onto that as well.
I had had it with this coral and lets just say the blade won the battle!

I think it is a beautiful coral but if it means spreading throughout the entire tank I can live without it!

And yes, rapid growth is a good sign. The tank it letting you know that the environment it stable enough to house corals!

If you keep your xenia confined to 1 rock thats not touching other rocks it can be a good thing. Mine doesn't jump from rock to rock, I don;t let the stalks get long enough to reach out that far. Heres a pic of mine right after i sold some to my lfs. I took him 5 stalks, and made 50.00 in store credit, so i love watching it grow
