When Clowns Lose Their Mate Or Anemone?

Anybody know what happens to a clownfish if it loses it mate or anemone. I had purchased two Tomato clowns and one died within two days. The clown didn't look ill or have any visible diseases. It just sat motionless looking very sad and didn't eat. I'm wondering if I accidentally ripped it away from its mate when I bought it. There were a bunch in the tank at the store where I bought it.

Well, I sorta did the same thing. There were two pink skunk clowns in the tank with live rock at the pet store and I originally wanted both but they could only catch one. I have to say that mine is doing great. He uses my goniorpa (in place of an anemone) during the day and at night he beds down in my feather duster. I can only tell you my experience. Hope it helped
