aloha! my 75g fowlr is just about done cycling and i wanted to know when do i add my protein skimmer. right now i have 5 chromis, 75lbs live rock, 20lbs live sand, 12 hermits, 4 urchins, 2 cleaner shrimp, 1 coral banded shrimp and a wet dry filter. future plans are 2 watchman gobies, 4 small clowns, 2 firefish and a kole tang. will my tank benefit from using a protein skimmer? goods or bads as to adding one? i have a tunze. thank you very much!!

add away. no problem. the only real reason you dont want to put it on right from the start is because you want that crap to help with your cycle. otehr then that there is no reason to wait.

I started mine from day 1 and I am already on my first week. Is it better to stop it until the recycling is done?

It is ok to keep it going. The main reason some will tell you to wait is because A heavy nutrients load is a good thing when your starting a new tank because it will help move the cycle along. The skimmer may just slow things up a bit. It is not a big deal and you are fine to Keep the current course

thanks alot. this site is awesome. quick, knowledgable replies. i just double checked my water again and its 0 amnonia, 0 nitrite and 10 nitrate. when i get home from work, im going to set the skimmer up. would you guys rather have it hang or sit in the sump? the skimmer i have can do both. personally, i dont really care, but if one way is better than the other, then thats what ill do.
thanks again!

placment is a preference but i always liked in sump if you have the room. i like it becasue if something is going to leak it is nice to know it will leak in the sump and not on my floor

Nows the time to set it up. If you have room in your sump then do it there. Id be scared of accidental leakage or overflow from a hob.
