When putting rocks down on your tank glass....

I know its supposed to go directly on top of the glass first...sand second...but I'm a little paranoid with adding a couple hundred pounds of rock on bare glass. its a 125gal DT. Is there nothing to worry about? or should I consider putting some rubber pads or mabee a metal/plastic plate on the bottom of the tank. Mabee some of that white divider plastic that is often used for backing on store shelves.

Eggcrate is a great idea. It will really help distribute the weight and more importantly, provide peace of mind. Good luck.

Eggcrate is a name for
-suspended ceiling lighting diffuser-
This is the stuff that goes in a suspended ceiling, where a light panel would
go. You can buy this plastic grid at home improvement stores

i apologize for my fellow reefers before me that decided to call that lighting diffuser material "eggcrate". who came up with that anyway?
it looks and functions nothing like a crate to hold eggs.

If I were you I would use my PVC table trick, get a length of PVC pipe and some elbows and make what amounts to tables. Place them in your tank with the top of the table just under what will be your substraight height. . This will eliminate the need for foundation rock as well as the weight the foundation rock would add. Then add your substraight followed by your live rock sitting on your tables

i think it is the term that construction folks use. anyway, it is widely accepted and used term in this hobby and everyone knows what you are talking about except beginners, who soon find out. it is a misnomer, but no need to apologize on my behalf. i meant what i said, and i will say it again, dammit! eggcrate eggcrate eggcrate!

glad I asked^^ I pictured going to the store and buying eggs.
Ya egg crate is the plastic stuff I referred to when I posted this questions. So it seems like I already had a good Idea.I just didn't know how to describe it. Ill go with that, mainly I wanted to distribute the weight of the rock a little more evenly on the glass, last thing I need is cracks in a 125gal monster.

I use pvc squares. That way my digging fish have a nice place to live.
1 inch pvc cut about 6 inch long with elbows to connect into a square, then I just put my base rock on those and filled with sand.
