When the test kits say your ready...Perfect numbers….according to my test kits
PH: 8.2/8.4
Alkalinity: 2.5
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: 10/40 the lower the better
Phosphates: 0/0.1
Ammonia: 0
SG: 1.024/1.026
Magnesium: 1200-1400
Calcium: 350-450
Most Coral grows best in 82 – 86 degrees (natural ocean reef temps) Careful, some corals like cooler temps a Pagoda cup for example…76-78
Caves or large overhangs make a great place for those corals that don’t like the bright lights. So consider that when setting up your rockwork.
When moving the coral, acclimate like just when they were new to your system.
My Method: Place them in a container and add a little new tank water and remove the same amount of old water for an hour every 15 minutes until only your new tank water remains. The more time it takes the better.
I have switched over and upgraded three Xs from a 55g to a 75g and now to a 90g, then moved the 90g twice and never lost a coral.

ty so much love those numbers but I always keep my tank around 78-79
is that going to be a problem for my corals because most fish are around 78 right?

Flower likes to keep her temps more in the high range. I keep mine at 80. 78 should be okay but the key is temp fluctuation. You want to keep your temp as stable as possible so you don't stress things out. If you go with 78 and your coral doesn't seem to like it, you can gradually move it up. Also, like Flower mentioned, it sometimes depends on the types of coral you are housing.

My temp goes from 83-85. It's not really within my control to make it any lower, but I'm able to stop it from going higher than 85.

Well should I go higher than 80 or just let things be if all is well? It seems that 77-86 is an ok temp as long as you keep a stable temp.

If you have success then I don't think you should change anything. If it aint broke....

I'd personally like it if my temp was a little further away from the 'danger zone'... but I'm not buying a chiller :p I'm cheap-reef.

I like the concept of if it isn't broke, why fix it. If you have had good success, then don’t change things up.
Most coral does just fine in the 80 range. I see allot of people panic because the tank heats to 84. However I personally wouldn’t go any lower than 78.
The numbers I gave was from a test kit, and an article I read on temps for the best advice I could offer. Nothing is etched in concrete.

Mmake sure your carefull and fully acclimate them. I made the stupid mistake of switching everything from my established 20 gallon to a 40 alittle too early and since i had a MH light the temp was alittle higher. Needless to say i lost half of my stuff. Big lesson learned on not to rush things.

I dont plan on rushing anything when it come to saltwater reef tanks

WHAT!!!???
3 WEEKS? How?
How can your tank be so cool and yet so young?
This is contradicting everything I've been told so far.
Oh wait, do you mean the tank that everythings being transferred in to?

I think 3 weeks is pushin it but i'm no expert. Keep checking the numbers and before you do it post the info here cause there are some really knowledgeable ppl here.
