When to take out a dying coral

I've had a LT plate coral that hs been doing great until a frag fell on it. It was doing ok for a while but now it doesn't expand out like it used to and about 3/4 of flesh has turned brown and the skeleton s poking through the flesh. I've been feeding it every few days hoping it would recover but it's not looking to good. Should I just take it out and put it in the trash? It just sounds awful doing that.
Thanks for everyones help.

Oh just to let you know the long tentacle plate corals don't last very long in home tanks. If you want another plate coral go with the fungias.

Thanks for the reply. So I really don't have to worry about an ammonia spike or anything.
All kinds of sites say their easy and good for beginners, nothing about not doing well in tanks. I'm all about for doing research before hand now.
Thanks.

dont feel bad.... my LT plates going downhill also .. but you need to leave it in there as many other fungia leave babies as a dying resort.
