Hi all!
This is my first Question on the Post! :D ok here it is, I have a 180 tank with aout 3" of cc.Now for the animals, I have are a 5" blue line grouper and a 11" Queen trigger, I feed them squid, krill, shrimp and formula 1,they do great together although sometimes I have problem with the grouper stealing all the food. Now here's the question as you can guess I have a few food particles left in there, what kind of clean up crew should I use? I don't want to sacrifice any critters <img src="graemlins//angel.gif" border="0" alt="[angel]" /> but with her majesty in there I dont want to vacuum and come back few limbs short!
Thanks in advance!!!

there is only one thing you can get to clean your tank with, and it costs nothing, it is on the end of your arm, sorry but no cleaner i can think of would make it past the first feeding, maybe get a long plastik stick and secure it somehow to a python, and vaccuum without putting your arm into the tank
HTH and good luck

I have 3 blue devil damsels that help with the smaller pieces that my eel and trigger miss.
They are mean and quick enough not to become lunch themselves too :)

I would say no clean-up crew could live in there. What you proabably want to do is get a set of those aquarium gloves as a little extra protection or, Get a piece of plexiglass and use it as a tank divider so you can clean one side of the tank and the Queen can be on the other side then switch it.

for the first time damsels are good for something they are probably the only cleaners you could use because hermnits and crabs would be a nice little expensive delicasy

I had a 180g with puffer 2 triggers niger & Picasso), lion, etc. I used 3 large hermit crabs to keep the bottom clean. They were big (3"+ shells)...no one messed with them, but you have to break up fights between each other!!!

Chopper, personally I think 3" of CC is to much to use in a tank. You are only suppose to use about an inch or so. If you are using LS then you use between 4-6 inches. I would take some of the CC out of the tank. This way it wont collect as much leftover food and waste.

i am in the same boat, no cleaners for me. I also have trigger and a grouper (as well as others) I have to vacuum myself--I do have long gloves, but honestly I think it is easier to remove them during cleaning than always watching them. Although they've always run if I make aggressive type movements towards them with my hand. They only get me when I'm feeding and not paying attention and my fingers get too close to or touch the water. Maybe I'll consider a sea biscut like anthem said. Let me know if you get one and how it works out for you.
Good Luck

My LFS had some HUGE hermits like the size of a football. Would they work as a clean up crew or just get tipped over and chewed up?? Maybe if you keep queen well fed????
