before i hooked up my skimmer i had to add about a gallon of make up water every 4 days or so. now that i have my prizm skimmer running i have to add a gallon a day and its still not enough. whats going on here? any ideas to help correct it?

Hi jack, sounds like you need to adjust the venturie so it makes dry bubbles instead of wet ones, I had the same problem and all it was , was a small adjustment. most new skimmers take up to a week to start producing gunk....cya

im still playing with that little black knob trying to get it right. but it there is no way im dumping out as much water as there is missing. ill try to get it adjusted right and hopefully that will fix it. ive already added 2 gallons today, and it still looks low. this is a real pain since i have to get my water from the store.

Jack, what kinds of lighting are you useing? There is not a day that I dont add a gallon to our 72 reef, under pc and MH lighting, very hot. Also the air temp might be evaporating it too, I know here in mi. we have had a few hot days, but we run the ac and try to keep it under 70 in the house..cya

i use an eclipse hood so it has Normal output florescent bulbs. my tank temp is at 79 right now. i dont know whats going on, but its really annoying.

Hmmmm, well the lighting shouldnt cause much evaporation, and the temp sounds good, mines a little warmer than that. Maybee you just have some awfull thirsty fish, got me stumpped...cya :D

It's called evaporation. It's summer and if you have air-condtioning running in your house, that will remove humidity in the air, and your tank is a source of humidity.
If you don't want to replace the evaporated water by hand, you need to get an auto top off system. That's about all that can be done.

Jacmill--Do you have any corals in that tank? If so which ones?
Do you have the eclipse hood open? Air stone in the tank? These could add to evaporation.

ok well it wasnt evaporation. after the second day of adding 2 gallons of water i got bhind the tank and looked really good. apparently the O-ring in my prizm had got knocked loose. it was leaking everywhere back there. got the problem fixed and tank isnt loosing much water and skimmer is working great. it wasnt hard to get the prizm working with the eclipse, just had to make a cut in the back. i would post pics, but i dont have any sorry. but its not hard, just get in there with a hack saw and have some fun. and no i dont have any corals cause i was told that i dont really have enough light for corals. i have also been told by others that mushrooms would be ok though. thank you for all the help.
