Where should tank water level be?

I was just wondering how far down from the top of the tank should my water level be? I was thinking 1/2" or so.

That sounds fine. I'd run mine basically full if I could, but I have some older non-submersible heaters (that I need to upgrade).
I have my 10 gallon nano filled so that the waterline just touched the plastic strip. That helps me to maintain the same water level for my top-offs too.
