Tomatoes are my favorite and Clarkii ar mY second favorite. Tomatoes look a lot like Maroons so I'd get the Clarkii.

OK, color me confused. I am in the process of setting up our first tank, 29 gal bio cube, and I want to have a clarkii and a couple of perculas. I read on the board not to mix them but on the swf.com site the description of both says specifically that they get along well with other clowns. Guys at the lfs are also saying they will do fine. What's the story? Anybody actually tried a clarkii and perculas?

you can only have 2 of the same species in a tank that size IMO. people have mixed clowns before like maroons and clarkis but Very Rare

I have a false perc and a onyx together I think that since they look alike(other than color) they should be fine I've had them both for a year so far the just swim together and dont fight. Also the onyx was $30 at my lfs were i work but i get 20% off.

No more than two clowns per tank, especially at that size. Don't try to mix species... save a fish's life and save your own money.

My vote is for onyx percs too.

clowns aren't from the Red Sea though. They are captive bred and raised by ORA Farms. If any of your LFS is a dealer of ORA, just ask them to order you some.

Sorry for late reply...

The onyx clowns are from a breeder in Illinois named Rod. ($50 each with $50 in shipping). Doubt I can post the website. But I like them because they change from orange, black and white to mostly black and white with orange tips on face and fins. It takes about 1-1.5 years for color change to fully occur. I found out about them on the "other forums"...
I believe there is another breeder of Onyx as well, but I dont know its name.

I have a maroon and a clarkii in my tank and they get along great. I do have a 125 g. tank tho. I see them playing quite a bit. They are very entertaining.
