which crabs for clean up

which are the best crabs for cleanup crew, red leg or blue leg or is there really a difference except in price. what would be a good amount for a 125. i have 60 nausiues snail in there now.

scarlet. they are bigger and less violent
add some other snails too. I like cerith.

not much diff. i believe blues are a little better. 10-20 should be enough plus about 30-50 more turbo snails should do.

well, from what i've been reading, blue legs are very violent. They will kill other crabs and snails for their shells, even if there are shells around. so, i wouldn't go with the blue legs...here is a post from another forum...

Red Foot Moon Snail (Hair Algea, Film Algea, Red/Green Algea)
Some good snails that will eat either algea or left over waste from fish or left over food or dead things.
Cerith Snails
Nassarius Snail
Bumble Bee Snail
Good snail that eats only left over food dead things and fish waste.
Super tonga Nassarius Snail
(Caution in reef tank)
Chesnut Cowrie (Algea when gets larger will sponges and soft corals)
Cowrie Tiger (algea when small when it gets to adult size it will eat some anemones, sponges and soft corals)
Keyhole Limpet Snail (algea and caution with sps has been known to eat some acropora, monticora and other similar species)
That is all the snail species I have access to there are others but these are your basic and some that arent that often seen.

Good crabs to have that eat algea.
Red Tip Hermit
Zebra Hermit
Staghorn Hermit
Emerald Mythrax Crab (if not enough algea may turn to supplementing diet with corals or inverts)
Sally Light Foot
Porcelain Anemone Crab (live in pairs in an anemone (eats plankton and mucus from teh anemone)
Crabs that eat bolth algea and unwanted left overs from feedings, fish and dead stuff.
Scarlet Hermit
Blue Leg Hermit (caution with other hermits and snails)
Electric Blue Hermit
Electric Orange Hermit
Strawberry Hermit
Halloween Hermit
Pom Pom/Boxing Crab
Porelain Crab
Strawberry Crab
Crabs that should be kept in a reef tank (or with small fish) with caution. They are carnivors and will need meaty diets.
Arrow Crab
Arrow Decerator Crab
Spider Crab
Sponge Crab
There are more crabs out there but these are most common and some that arent seen often. I hope this helps you I can do shrimp and other stuff also if you like. :quote:
