Which do I get?? Sump.. twin packs...?

I just got a 120 g aquarium and I need some ideas on what to do for filtration. I know that I want to get reef and coral along with the fish. I went to Petsmart and they had a canister that said it was for aquariums up to 170 g but the waterflow didn't seem to be enough for some reason. I went to a number of lfs and they had sumps from 200-500 dollars. I still need to buy live rock and live sand, skimmers, etc. Do you have any suggestions for me to get decent equipment for not an expensive price? What about building a fuge? Thanks! :help:

Buy parts online, checking the popular auction site first. that's how I got a lot of my equipment. Saved me hundreds of $$ doing it this way instead of with the LFS.
