I have some red mushrooms that just grew wild in my tank. They are very easy to take care of, they don't need any special care, I only have five, and they don't spread very fast, at least mine don't

Lots of different ones - Green striped, purple (look blue to me), green hairy, blue, metallic green, red, ricordia. The red are supposed to multiply fast, but I've only had them for a couple of weeks. No excessive spreading on any of the others and easy to care for.

I like the hairy mushrooms they do mutiply fairly fast but easy to propagate( as are most) and trade off or give away..

Ricordia florida is my personal favorite, they dont grow as fast, and are not as easy to propagate for this reason, but they are very attractive, they are also readily available from coral farmers, although sometimes expensive. Even the wild collected ones are expensive though as their are restrictions on their collection and they are usually only availble as a single polyp. HTH

I have a 10 pound rock with about 70+ mushrooms on it, it has watermelon (green & red striped), purple, blue...and a few other rocks with red ones on it. To me the watermelon multiply the fastest, but the red do well also. The rock is beautiful and at peak time... you can't even see the rock...just mushrooms thriving!! When they multiply... they just pop off of the rock and end up somewhere else and some of the original shroom is left and grows to become another... as the other finds a new home... They are a great investment.. Don't know too much about the metallic or hairy ones though!

my watermelon grows the fastest. Some rules for mushrooms, though the thrive on strong lights, less lights will make the bigger with the addition of iodine. Keep the mushrooms lower and away from direct light and you'll notice the difference on how big they get.

I currently have hairy, red, purple, and purple bullseye mushrooms in my tank. All of them require very little care and are gluttons for punishment (clownfish live in hairy mushroom and beat on it nonstop). On thing I have personally noticed is that the red and the purple mushrooms, if near each other, seem to divide faster (maybe because of competition or something) and I have had to harvest the red mushroom twice now because of the amount of room they can quickly cover (they also can expand and become huge). I think you will be happy with whatever type of mushroom you end up getting - they are a great beginner coral (as well as for anyone IMHO) and a beautiful space filler for a reef tank.
