which protein skimmer

I am about to set up my 84g and i am on a tight budget. I am getting different opionions on what skimmer to buy. A red sea prizm or a seaclone 150. I can't afford too much but if the skimmer is really important then i could save up for a while.

Everyone has diffrent opions on skimmers. I have a seacolne that I really like, my friend has a skilter that she really likes. If you do not want to skimp on one then I would save up for the top of the line.

I have the red sea prizm and I hate it. I am constantly adjusting it, either skims too much or not enough. I would save up for the best you can get, or you'll end up wanting to replace it like I am.

I have a seaclone on a 30 gallon,does a fair job after I modified it.I would'nt use it on anything bigger though. Send me a e-mail put skimmer in the subject line and I will help you out.

go with the remora pro on that size tank if your going with a hang on skimmer. But for that size you may want to sump with a larger skimmer...75g is the biggest I'd go with the hang on...it gets iffy when you get to 90g...
If you get the remora pro make sure you get the prefilter box its worth the extra $$$

I only have a wet/dry so i think i will have to get the hang on back kind unless the sump kind would fit in my wet/dry. I can't really afford to set up a fuge/sump.

Hey guys thanks for all the info. I have a spare 10g just lying around. Do you think it would be worth my extra time and money to take down my wet/dry and set up a sump/fuge. Could i use the overflow and pump i already have?

I want you to look at your skimmer thoughts this way. As jwtrogan said these are both low end skimmers. Think of all the salt you could buy and make saltwater with to do water changes while you save up for the skimmer of your choice instead of wasting your money on a skimmer you will wind up wishing you had never purchased. I use a berlin classic, there are many others to choose from that can be more powerful, the Berlin Classic has been around for a long time, it works and does a good job. Paid $170 for it new with pump.

I have had Biomatrix skimmers on both my 55 and my 112 for over a year and no prolems. They are a filter skimmer in one. I paid $100 each.
