I am ordering equipment for a new 50 gal breeder SPS dominated reef tank and was curious which quiet one return pump everyone thought I should run. I am trying to decide between the 3000 and the 4000. I am going to be using diy pvc overflows and the return is going to come over the top of the tank. I am figuring I will have somewhere close to 6 ft of head on the return line. The sump/fuge is going to be a 36 gal. I will have ~2000 gph from powerheads (thinking about trying the new koralia controlable ones) so I don't have to get a ton of flow out of the return to try to get the right turnover, but I was shooting for right around 600 gph.
I am leaning towards the 4000, but the 3000 draws quite a bit less electricity and is less money and at 6 ft of head would still give me close to 500 gph. What do you guys think?
