Help pls. I want to convert my 75 gal SW that looks like a Wal-Mart display into a FOWLR natural looking show piece. Not knowing anything about LR except what I read here, this is my dilemma: I have available within driving distance two types of LR. Florida "Aquaculture", grown for 5-7 years in the gulf @ $11 per lb or in the other direction, Premium Fiji @ $3 a lb. Not considering price.....which would you, as someone with experience, choose for your tank? The Florida rock is beautifully colored and the pieces range from 1/2 to 20 lbs ea. The Fiji is cleaned and cured, dull in color, with a range of 1/2 to 4 lb ea.
I thank you in advance for your expertise.

If you do not have good enough lighting to keep the Floridia rock alive it would be a huge waste of money. I would go with the Fiji. If you do have proper lights and conditions it will color up. What type of equipment do you have. Lighting, skimmer, fish, and what suppliments do you add.

Hi, the tank is 6' L 11" W 24" T with 2 T8 50/50 Coralife tubes, 2 Fluval 404 filters, and a300 W heater. At the present the tank is serviced by LFS but I am not happy so I am going to do it myself. The tank is about 4 years old. I have purchased a refractometer, a chemical test kit, a protein skimmer, easy to read glass thermometer, and Paletta's book on Aquariums. I am not very knowledgable about reef tanks and am accumulating a lot of good advice on these forums. I plan to set up a QT and follow as close as possible the 101 tips seen here. My population at the present is 1 puffer, 1 chromis, 1 damsel, 1 pigmy angel and 1 clownfish. I'm glad to know the Fiji will color up in time. I hope this is sufficient info that you can offer additional advise.

why not go halves? Even with some added costs i would think that a bit of both would be the route I'd go. The Fl. LR will help the less cultured rock on its way to becoming as pretty as the FL LR. also get some coraline shaving from ur LFS and or friends tanks they got to clean the glass anyways u might as well benefit from it.

Great idea ! I can do that. We're kind of isolated here since the local LFS closed but I hear we will have a PetSmart store latr in June. Of course they don't stock live rock so it 105 miles to Las Vegas or 145 miles to Awatukee south of Phonix, AZ. Thanks again fir the idea.

By the time you pay for gas just order from online and have shipped. This sight offers nice stuff. The fish I bought here arrived just fine better than you can buy in LFS. Infact I think some is in stock and on sale now.
