Whit Live Rock

Just did a search and did not come up with anything. My wife bought me a piece of live rock from LFS. She has gone with me before to buy live rock and said she got it from the same tank I always do. It is solid bright white with what looks like purple coraline alge growing on it, no pits or pores. Is this ok, looked through a bunck of pics on this site and can't find any that resemble it. Here is a pic, see if you can pick out the rock I am reffering to. Thanks.

It looks like base rock with coraline. If it has coraline on it, it has probably been in a tank for a while and is probably "live". I've never seen a white rock like that with coraline growing on it.

It looks like a piece of base rock now, with small coralline growth. Its hard to see in the picture if it had any “old” coralline growth that has bleached out and starting to color up again. Or a part of live rock that was broken into two parts and the outside part is now getting coralline growth.

I use those hawaiian base rocks as well. It will darken up down the road. Here's a picture of my tank with'em, can you tell the difference? I can because I put it there and I can tell the difference, but if you didn't know it, you probably can't tell the difference. :happyfish

normally the white coloration is due to lack of lighting this rock of your was most likely kept out of the light during curing or cooking give it time it will liven up evenually
