Little little white "bugs" are on the glass of my tank! Are these "copods"? My tank has been set up for a week, is this part of the cycle? Thanks.

Hi,
I have these too , i think any way, I thought it was a calcium build up they are all over my glass mostly , little white spots and i keep scrapping them over, didn't think it was anything of value.

Copepods are mobile - they move about near the substrate and on the glass. They are more obvious at night - just grab a flashlight at check'm out.
Peddler - you may have some small filter feeder crustaceans. They have a calcareous outer skeleton, sort of spiral in shape, and are not near as mobile as pods are. They don't swim around, they adhear to the glass and you have to "scrape" them off.
Get a magnifying glass and check them out close. If spriral shaped - not copepods.

Broomer,
Yup I think your are right they do appear to be circular. Are these good or bad?..Seem to be more of a nuisance as far as keeping the glass clean and they don't seem to move at all. I have them on two different tanks .

i would still reconsider before buying a mandarin, you really should have a real good and stable pod population, and at least 75(preferrably 100 lbs) of lr, just to maintain a stable enough population to support one, they can and will deplete your pods, almost overnight, if you are not careful, then they will still need more foodto survive

btu a scooter could be fine, they are less demanding, and can be fed as well, we feed ours with frozen brine, which we inject with a turkey bastor, and basically shoot the food right down by him, between that and the rock(pods), he gets fed well, and is real healthy, but we are not in hurry to add a mandarin(we will wait @1yr, then decide) to our 75 with 110 lbs of lr and a dsb
SCOOTERS ARE REALLY COOL TOO
