white dots

i've noticed that my snails and hermit crabs are now getting white dots on their shells. any ideas? (almost looks like dots of white paint all over them.)

Ahhh! ICH has adapted to attack invertebrates! Run!
Seriously... I have no clue. If it is a problem, they're dead because you can't medicate them...

i wondered if it was maybe a form of coralline because the hermits also have blotches of purple on their shells also. the spots are to big to be ich.

I dunno about the white, but the purple is most likely Algae of some kind. My hermits are covered in the stuff. I hope it doesn't become carnivorous.

When coraline algea dies it turns white, perhaps that's what has happened. I know I had quite a bit of coraline on the glass in my tank, and when I moved it turned white within a couple of days and it came off really easy when I cleaned my glass. HTH
