White Ribbon Eel (Ghost Eel)
Bought him on: 03/04/08
For those of you who don't know, these guys are a lot easier to take care for than Blue Ribbon Eeels. They are also a lot cheaper than Blue Ribbon Eels. I saw White Ribbon Eels for $40.00-$60.00, and Blue Ribbon Eels for $70.00 - $100.00. I was luck to get mine for only $25.00, and he was already eating before I brought him home.
Reef Safe?
I can't answer this question yet. I do have a few shrimps in my tank, and so far he doesn't show any interest in them. He doesn't touch my snails and crabs either. I was worried about my neon goby, but so far so good.
Food?
So far I fed him silversides, but I will try krill next time. I am planning on feeding him 3 times a week.
I am attaching few pictures, and a video of him eating. Enjoy!

Yes, also how big in diameter? I have a 1" pipe in my SB of my 135, I put it in there just in case. It looks like yours would fit right in there.

1" pipe could be too small. He is probably close to 1".

Is the eel reef safe? I have been looking to get an eel for awhile, but need to get a reef safe one. Any suggestions?

I suppose that the the eel is rather docile? I tried a snowflake eel in which was very spastic. It also ate lots of my crabs. I see you have alot of those snails, i'm asuming that the eel dosent bother them? Do have crabs, too? If so, how is the eel with them?
BTW - What kinds of snails of those? I have some that are simillar, but they stay under the sand bed. Are yours a different kind?

I've had a snoweflake eel before in a 90g and from my experiance he is a lot more aggressive than Ribbon Eels. He attacked my crabs all the time.
I also had a Blue Ribbon Eel for nine months (he jumped) and he didn't bother any inverts, but he did eat my yellow watchman, and two cardinals. He never seemed to have any interest in shrimp, clownfish, and six line wrasse. IMO you can keep him with any fish that is swimming constantly. If you have blennies, or gobies they will get eaten sooner or later.
Now this guy (White Ribbon Eel) is not as shy as my Blue Ribbon. I would say that he is a lot less agressive than snoflake eel but less shy than Blue Ribbon. I just had him for a few days so I may be wrong? I will let you guys know after few weeks.
Those are the same snails you have (Nassarious snails). They come out every time I feed my fish.

My bad, I was thinking about cm. He is about 1cm in diameter, maybe 1 & 1/2 cm so you should be fine. I have a PVC in there and I think mine is 1 & 1/2"

As I already mentioned he will probably eat any slow moving fish. There is no such a thing as completely reef safe eel. You always take a risk...
