white spots or royal gramma?

ive had my royal gramma for bout 3 days now. he is swimming around good, just started coming out of his hole, and eating a ton. yesterday morning he had 4 white spots on his back, and by night it was down to 2. today he still has those 2 spots. he has been moving some sand out of his little cave, and i was wondering if that could be it, but it seems to have been on there way to long to be just sand. i also know grammas are prone to disease. i dont think its ick, cause it went from 4 spots down to 2. i thought ick was supposed to multiply and fast. any ideas on what this might be, and should i just let it go, or treat it or what?

I am not an ick expert, however, I know from experience that sand dwelling digging fish can get sand stuck to their slime coat. Healthy fish can also get ick and fight it off without treatment. I would keep a close eye on him and see if he shows any other signs of ick. Is he rubbing again the rocks or the sand? Has he stopped eating? If you see any other these other signs I would start treatment. There are many effective treatments.
You might want to re-post your question in the disease section or you could do a search. Ick is a favorite or at least common topic!
Good luck,
Connie
If it was me, I would watch closely

believe me i am watching really closely. he doesnt rub against the rock or sand, but ive seen him kind of digging out a new hole in his cave, that kind of threw some sand up. that is what made me think it might be sand. but its been on there for 2 days. hes eating very well too, and shows no other signs of any disease. ill probably just watch him and hope for the best. thanks for the help, and i will repost in the disease section. anybody else who has any info id appreciatte it.

Sounds like its just sand to me. My BlackCap that I got 3 days ago loves digging little holes in his gigantic rock fortress. The thing looks out of one cave and the next thing ya know he dives down and spits a bunch of sand out. Now my gramma does not have any dots on him whatsoever. However I had a Royal Gramma at one point that wiped out all mmy fish exceptt my 6-line wrasse. Watch him carefully beccause they do seem to get diseases often. Good luck.

It probably is sand but even if it is ick a healthy well fed gramma should have no problem fighting it off. Keep your water clean.

thanks for the reply. im gonna try to go without medicating him. i figure dont mess up the chemistry of your tank if you dont have too. im just gonna keep watching him, and hope for the best. thanks for the advice.

I am so glad to read that the spots are gone. I checked back for your posting to see if you had an update.
Don't these fish drive you crazy some times!
