white tubes

hi
there has been this white thing that I have slowly watched grow over the last few months. i noticed today that there are several of them popping up over a few of the live rocks. the tubes look empty. they are about the size of a salt shaker hole, maybe a little bit bigger, end of a retracting ball point pen perhaps. I will try to get a pic but dont know if i will be able to get a good one.
i'm sure someone knows what i'm talking about, so what'cha think?

they retract .... but when they're completely open you'll know it.
