Who Does Yoga?

Alright y'all - spill the beans. Where do you practice? What discipline(s) do you practice? How often do you practice? How much do you love it?

I'll go first... I practice mostly at my local yoga school - but I will practice at home if I can't get away, and on vacation when I can.
I do mostly Vinyasa yoga, but I'd really like to try Ashtanga.
I practice as often as I can, but lately it's been quite erratic due to my impending move - minimum once weekly for 1hr & a half.
I could write a book on how much I love it

Yoga is for flexibility, balance and strength. There is a religious side to it, as it originated in India, but most American schools of Yoga are largely disassociated with that aspect. Yoga is meditative, it is challenging, it is unbelievably good for you (improves circulation, digestion, clarity of thought, joint pain/stiffness.... there are volumes written on the benefits of yoga, but these are the benefits I myself have seen), and it teaches a tolerance for and acceptance of oneself.
Most martial artists I know practice yoga to improve their power, control and flexibility. It's a LOT of isometrics and balance and stretching.
I love it. And in case you're thinking it's girly.... check this dude out; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mu_0Bx2fuA

I have been before, I never could feel the waves washing against my feet. I opened my eyes and I was on carpet. So I left. Good for all of you that get it to work.

I guess I never realized there were different disciplines of yoga. Can you educate me on what the distinctions are? I occasionally toy with the thought of taking a yoga class....

honestly, I am not altogether familiar with all the disciplines as there are countless different ones, and new ones are being created/evolved all the time.
first, check out the Wikipedia article on Yoga to get a general idea of what Yoga started out as; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoga
and then I strongly suggest going to www.yogajournal.com for a wealth of information and to get a much better idea of what American Yoga is all about.
You can also just find a school near u and jump in 2take a class... that's how I started - it's changed my life!!

i dont do yoga, but bagua is kind of similar, it is an internal style martial art so the focus is a lot on developing your Qi. Practicing baguazhang has many health benefits like yoga.

yup! and the 2 pple on the planet (besides you) whom I know to practice bagua also practice yoga - the practices benefit and balance one another. in fact, there are a great many martial artists i know who also do yoga as supplement/complement to their martial practice.
