I want to get one for myself. These things are just cool! Who has one and what are some must have things you need with one? I have read a lot about them so I'm just looking for actual comments from people who own them, good and bad.
Thanks.

Do a search on here, it has been asked before and you might find posts about it. I know a memeber named Ant had one, but I don't see her here much anymore.

I figured Reefkprz would have like 8 of them.

My sister's friend had one named Sonic (what a surprise) He was very cool, require the same amount of care as a guinea pig. They cost about $80-$100 though.

well...........this is for you or your kids?? Because I swore I would never have anything other than fish (even though I LOVE dogs and because of allergies I can't have them) we now are owners of.................yes.................
2 hermit crabs for my 9 year old.
Y U C K !!!!!!!

can you cuddle with them????????????????/ NO!!
Can you kiss them?????????????????? NO!
Can you take a walk with them???????????? NO!!
so what I am saying.........get a dog if you can because they are great and I am not sure what a hedgehog would offer you. I know someone here had one not too long ago and they are cool looking.........but not sure as pets.

i second the dog vote
grrr today i was driveing on the back road (country dirt road) to my house and i came up on a guy dumping a dog, i was so pissed off, if you cant care for a dog anymore then be responsable and find another home, even the pound is better than dumping them, the farmers out here shoot any and everything that even step foot on there land

Basically it's for me. We have two dogs already and love them so it's not just looking for another pet. It's a specific decision.

If you want a hedgehog I say get one.

My son and I had 3 hermits when he was younger. They were pretty cool when we had them.

my girlfriend wants one...... fortunatly I havent found time to apply for the permit yet. they are illeagle here without a permit. lots of cool pets are in maine. it was a pain in the butt getting the permit for the iguana, being a member of NEARR helped alot, ( NEARR=New England Amphibian and Reptile Rescue).

Interesting, I havent heard of permits for pets down here except for some crazy exotics. I believe here in FL that anyone can walk into a store and buy a iguana or hedgehog. Is it safe for me to assume that Maine has pretty strict laws regarding exotic pets?

the laws here are ridiculous, they just outlawed everything then its up to the people who want to own pets to lobby for legality and provide the research proving they arent invasive species, our legals list for mamals is less than one page, reptiles maybe a page and a half. we live in a cold state too not some southern state where tropical animals are going to thrive, they freeze here in the winter out in the wild. The laws regarding what you can own here are pretty dumb. but we are working to change them.

That is crazy. I had no idea that any states were that way. Good point about tropical species surviving winters. I think you need to move to Florida!!

I owned one for a long time when I was a kid. Back when they were 200 bucks or more for white ones. They were like keeping a hampster but they stink they excrete a oil like a ferrett. (I'm tired don't hate me for not spelling math major) If you handle them alot they relax and you can definately pet them and cuddle them. I'm not kidding I'd watch movies and the little beast would watch it with me on my shoulder or lap and eat some veggies with me. He was probably one of my favorite pets. But if you don't handle them they are pretty prickly. We had some family friends that raised them. Got to watch them breed and have little "sonics" and everything. It was pretty cool. They got out of the biz right before it crashed.
