Why buy a Nano/Biocube

Sold all my standard AllGlass tanks and always wanted a cube system. Just hate the cost since I have a bunch of filters and a T5 lighting system already.
Why buy a cube tank? Do filters ever out warm there welcome? As in if they still work perfect from 10 years ago. Are they unsafe to use anymore? Do they suck up more power for the bill then what is needed?
anyway to put a nova extreme T5 hood onto a cube tank? Or is the hood lighting setup so you can't change anything for the hood to work right?
Thanks alot.

You can have a refugium in the back of your cube with out having to have a second tank. That's a major plus in my opinion for the biocubes and nano cubes. Personally I don't like the hoods on the nano cubes because it causes my tank to overheat plus the stock lighting was insufficient. Therefore I just removed the hood completely and put metal halides along with egg crate.

Yeah thats my thing my lighting system is only 5 months old and as you stated is better then what they give you. I like the idea of everything being hidden thats pretty much the only reason I really want one HAHA. Maybe in the future I will look for a cheap used 12-14 cube. Just so much cheaper to go normal if you have all the supplies already ya know! Thanks

Also, some people just like the look of a cube. Personally, if it were not for the built in area in the back I think I'd rather go for a long tank. When you refer to filtration I assume you mean mechanical filtration which does require constant maintenance. Also, if you were to turn a HOB filter into a small fuge that could put a lot of strain on the back wall. I have thought about this several times since a HOB fuge would include sand, rocks, and water which probably will be ok but it makes me uncomfortable.

I bought my 29 Oceanic Biocube in January 2007 and it is still up today. If I knew then what I know now I would not buy it again. Over the years you learn that you can do things to standard tanks that will certainly outdo the Biocube. I have completely changed the back sump chambers. I have ditched the entire hood and purchased new lighting. Could have made a much better system purchasing things separately.
All of that said I am happy with what my tank has become but again would not do it the same if I had a do over now.
Here is a little picture history of my tank.
